Sana Mammo, the fouonder of Youth 4 Unity was awarded the Queensland Local Hero Awards at the Australian of the Year 2006 Awards.
Sana Mammo was awarded the Local Hero - Metropolitan 2006 Award.
Sana Mammo believes that children are more forgiving than adults; they are future of the world. Born in Basra in Iraq, Sana grew up in harmony with Muslim, Jewish, and Kurdish children and gave up her career as a civil engineer to bring her message of peace through children. Inspired by a playground incident affecting her daughter, she produced a CD, titled Kidz2Kidz, featuring youngsters from Queensland schools. She established the choir to raise funds for Iraqi schoolchildren and to promote peace and harmony. Sana sees singing as a way for children to connect peacefully and to build bridges between nations.
The CD has been sent worldwide, especially to Iraq as a message of hope from Aussie kids to Iraqi kids. Sana has been involved in Harmony Day and promotes multiculturalism in schools and the wider community.
