3 April 2009, National Youth Leadership Day Congress and Multicultural Concert

In 2009, Youth4Unity is hosting our first National Leadership Day Congress and a Multicultural Concert to be held on the 3rd April 2009.

Brisbane non-profit incorporated organisation, Youth4Unity, will hold its first annual National Youth Leadership Day Congress in April 2009 as part of the Q150&B150 celebrations. Youth4Unity will also launch a new song for Queensland with its talented Kidz2Kidz choir in a Multicultural Concert; these events will be held at QUT’s Gardens Theatre and Roma Street Parkland Amphitheatre respectively. Youth4Unity will be launching its new song to be performed by the choir, joined on stage by collection of multicultural talent and affiliated young professionals such as the Institute of Young Engineers, young lawyers from various law firms, other professionals and entertainers. The Queensland Government, through its Q150&B150 celebrations initiative is one of the proud major sponsors of the Concert.

Taking place on 3rd April 2009, the Youth4Unity National Youth Leadership Day Congress and Concert coincides with the Q150&B150 and Youth Week celebrations; this major event will showcase ‘Queensland Youth - Creativity and Leadership’, as it reflects on 150 years of independence from New South Wales and the establishment of its capital city, Brisbane. The Q150&B150 initiative represents a timely opportunity for Queenslanders to take stock of the state’s significant achievements as it continues to move forward.

To take part in the Q150&B150 celebrations is to ‘reflect on our past, and invest in our future’, which resonates strongly with Youth4Unity's ongoing endeavour to promote tolerance and social harmony, to celebrate our ethnic, linguistic, cultural and economic richness and to help young people unite for the sake of equality, justice and peace, and to inspire our youth to get involved in their respective community and, ultimately, to make a difference.

The Youth4Unity National Youth Leadership Day Congress and Concert is working to bring youth from all backgrounds to Brisbane during this special celebration, to witness for themselves the beauty that our state and capital city, Brisbane, has to offer. Youth4Unity is also facilitating participation for students from schools in remote Queensland, in addition to those in Brisbane and from other States; in turn, these youth representatives will go on to promote Queensland’s schools and universities, its diversity and rich resources to further bring Queensland to the forefront.

The Y4U National Youth Leadership Day Congress will include a line up of confirmed guest speakers such as Australian of the Year (2006) Professor Ian Frazer, Young Australian of the Year (2009) Ms. Jonty Bush, the Honorable Leader of the Opposition Mr. Lawrence Springborg, and Australian of the Year - Queensland Local Hero (2006) and Founding Director of Youth4Unity Ms. Sana Mammo. Themes for discussion at the 2009 Congress will include:

  • Cyber bullying
  • Friends, family and effective communication
  • Say "No!" to violence
  • Making the right choices
  • Youth & community leadership
  • Celebrating our community and state

Activities will include choral singing workshop, health & well-being activities, keynote speakers, forum discussion, display and exhibits. The evening's special Multicultural Concert will feature a performance from the acclaimed Kidz2Kidz choir as well as numerous other creative performances.
